New Motel in Kingman

Published by bcg1961 at 7:36 pm under Arizona, Kingman, route 66 Edit This

My  husband and I decided to go to Laughlin for the day today since there wasn’t a lot to do in Kingman because of the holiday.  We had to get gas in the Jeep before we left town so we headed up to Smith’s grocery store since we get a discount on gas there.  Leaving Smith’s, since we didn’t want to go north on Stockton Hill Road, we left by the side entrance, exiting onto Airway.

We took Airway down to Route 66, and started heading west towards Laughlin.  Right before we got to the corner of Route 66 and Stockton Hill Road, we passed one of our favorite restaurants, The Silver Spoon.  I noticed that there’s a sign in the empty lot next to The Silver Spoon, to the west, that said “Microtel Coming Soon.”  Cool.  Route 66 is motel alley.  There are quite a few of them along the road, and they all seem to stay fairly busy.  The Imperial Motel on the other side of Stockton Hill Road shut down so that they could build the new Walgreens, but this new Microtel will fill that void.

I think it’s good, as there’s really no newer motels on Route 66 at the center of town.  The newer chain motels are all either at the east end or the west end, both in the areas where Interstate 40 crosses Route 66.   Where this Microtel is going in is not that far off the interstate, so it should do ok.
